Ha! I just realized that I’ve completed the challenge with this painting, as it is Day 30. I was thinking of tomorrow as the final day. What a good habit this has been. I can’t thank Leslie Saeta enough for organizing this 30 in 30 challenge.
This Rhino watercolor is based on a photo Gary Jones submitted as a resource for a January Challenge that Sharon Whitely, of Sharon’s Art, posted on Facebook. She has generously created another community on her Facebook page for us artists to participate in.
I did not sketch this first, and if I do a larger piece I will definitely sketch it. I can ‘get by’ without a sketch on small pieces, but usually need to sketch first on larger pieces….but I’m working on not needing to sketch. Often, the pieces are fresher for me without a sketch.
It will be interesting, going forward, with the pressure of a painting a day off the table, if I will spend more time creating a painting, from sketch and composition through to painting, or if I will continue to develop the looseness along with accuracy and size.
What do you think? Any suggestions from my readers?
