It’s hard to post a painting that you don’t feel was successful. However, it happens. And what I learned from painting these flamingos, was that I didn’t take the time to do a paint sketch to try out how I would approach the effect of feathers that I was after. I was pressed for time, painting at night and probably tired, wanting to get on with it.
I loved the photo resource by Melanie Vowtaw, a scene of flamingos on the shore of a pond or other body of water. Light pink flamingos against dark greenish water. I didn’t push the darkness of the water because I didn’t want to lose the flamingo beaks to it. Probably another mistake.
Tomorrow is another day, and I’m taking the lessons learned and applying them!
