I really like how this painting turned out. The size, the squareness, the wood block it is mounted on so it can stand on a table or shelf, as well as be hung. Pelicans are such characters! This guy was actually in rehabilitation at Flamingo Gardens. I like squares but they have always been hard, or … read more
Pelican Landing
Day 4 January 2017 30 in 30 Challenge My husband kept himself busy while I was away for the holiday and took pictures of our neighborhood pelicans. I love the pose of this one. My inventory of pelicans was low and this fits nicely into my painting goals for upcoming outdoor shows.

October has been a catch up month after 30 days of almost continuous painting output, but also a month of hurricane threats and family emergency. All is happily behind me now, especially in happy outcomes, so time to refocus. During the 30 day painting challenge, I kept track of activity with each painting I posted. … read more

Turning this way and that, but holding the pose long enough for onlookers to whip out their smartphones and snap a shot. I’d photographed ‘him’ last … read more
Thirty Paintings in 30 Days – 2015 Day 13
I talked about lessons learned in yesterday’s flamingo post so today I was excited to do what I know works for me so well. I paint sketched, without a drawing, today’s brown pelican. I loved the effect and was not disappointed with the final painting either. I have painted other pelicans but the resource photo by … read more
Pelican Pose #2
Since ‘my’ pelican friend so graciously posed for me, I will be painting a series, though probably not all at once. I have my eye on a few other subjects. I spent a lot of time on this painting. Not having to break my neck to do a painting a day, I allowed myself to … read more
