Today, I went on my first ever birding field trip with the South Florida Audubon Society. Since I didn’t bring binoculars because I was more interested in taking pictures, I observed birds without magnification. I was surprised to see that the Downy Woodpecker was so small! Chances are I’ve never really seen one, but instead the Red-bellied Woodpecker. Even though it was small, it was distinctive on the lower branches of trees. I love woodpeckers, and because of my interest in painting them, I will begin to see the differences, as well as learn the names.
I’m enjoying these ‘black and white‘ paintings. It’s quite restful for me to manipulate the flow of black. And of course, a splash of color in black and white is REALLY fun!
